Not because it's the hardest part of teaching — because it's the most repetitive. You already know what a good lesson looks like: objective, hook, activity, check for understanding, exit ticket. Step 1: Build your context block (once — 10 minutes)
Open a document and write down, once, the things you currently re-type into every planning session: grade and subject; your state standards framework; class size and the honest shape of the room (reading-level spread, IEP/504 accommodations in general terms — no student names, ever); your period length; and your school's lesson-plan format if one is required.
Then add the single highest-leverage item: one full lesson plan you've written that you're proud of. Not a template — a real one. That example teaches the AI your structure, your pacing instincts, and your voice better than any instruction could. Step 2: Run the master prompt (5 minutes)
Paste your context block, then this:
"Plan my lessons for next week: [n] periods of [duration] on [topic/unit], aligned to [standard]. For each lesson include: a learning objective, a 5-minute hook, the main activity with timings, one check for understanding, and an exit ticket. Create a support version and a stretch version of each main activity — same objective, different scaffolding. Match the structure and tone of the example lesson above. Present each day separately."

Step 3: Edit like a teacher, not a proofreader (10–15 minutes)
This is where the plan becomes yours, and it's the step that separates teachers who get real value from AI from teachers who got a generic worksheet generator. Go through each day and ask three questions:

- 2Where will they get stuck? (add your anticipation — AI doesn't know that your third period always confuses these two concepts)

Step 4: Feed the loop (2 minutes, ongoing)
After the week runs, note what worked and what flopped, and put one line back into your context block: "the gallery-walk format worked well; my class loses focus during long videos." Every week's plans get better than the last, because the AI is planning for your room with increasing accuracy. This loop is the difference between a tool and a system.

The judgement about your students
AI plans for a generic class of 28. You teach a specific one. Every anticipation of where kids will struggle, every adjustment for the student who needs the concrete example first — that's teaching, and it happens in Step 3.
The accountability
The plan that runs in your classroom is yours the moment you approve it — same principle the profession applies to AI-drafted report comments and graded feedback. Review everything. AI is confidently wrong often enough that unreviewed output has no place in front of students.
The privacy line
No student names, ID numbers, or identifiable details go into a general-purpose AI tool — ever. Describe your class in general terms ("a wide reading-level spread, several students with reading accommodations"). If your district has an approved platform with a data agreement, prefer it for anything that goes near student information. This is a FERPA matter, not a style preference.
